China Adoption

ADOPT A WAITING CHILD FROM CHINA

SOME SPECIAL CHILDREN ARE WAITING FOR PARENTS

Today, all children coming home from China — through all agencies — have at least some minor special needs. Some have minor medical issues, others have more serious concerns. Some have had surgery in China and missed their opportunity to be adopted as infants. They are just as lovable now, but they are no longer babies. Now they need your love more than ever!

ADOPT A WAITING CHILD FROM CHINA

WAITING CHILDREN IN CHINA ARE AVAILABLE TO MARRIED COUPLES AND SINGLE MOMS.

Age of Parents:

Parents must be between 30 and 55 years of age when their dossier goes to China.  For couples over 50, the age difference between the child to be adopted and the applicant should be no more than 50 years. The age difference between a single mother and adopted child also can be no greater than 50 years. Applications of prospective parents over 55 will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.  Think you might be too old?   Be sure to see Adoption Options for Older Parents

Marriage Requirements:

Couples must be married at least 2 years.  If this is not the first marriage for either partner, couples must be married for 5 years.

Health Requirements:

Applicants must be healthy both physically and mentally according to the requirements by CCCWA.  Call (314) 812-1742 to discuss new CCCWA rulings on this requirement.

Moral Requirements:

Parents must have no criminal records, and have good moral quality and conduct

 Financial Requirements:

Family annual income must be at least $10,000 per household member, including the adopted child. Married couples must have a net worth of at least $80,000.

CHINA ADOPTION PROCESS

Upon your acceptance into the program, you will receive your Dossier Workbook and instructions regarding your home study.  Follow the guidelines provided as you assemble your dossier. You don’t have to deal with this alone – you get our team in St. Louis and, eventually, our staff in Bejing to help you with any questions or concerns. Your homestudy worker will also prove to be a great resource to you.

Your adoption specialist will guide you through the paperwork, which is called your dossier.

Upon completion of your dossier, Children’s Hope will send it to the CCCWA in Beijing for finalization.

You will travel a few months after you have been matched with a child and your dossier has been filed in China.  We will assist you in preparation and planning for all travel and our staff will meet you at the airport and make all arrangements for your adoption and travel.

You will be in China for about two weeks.

The process to adopt a child with a medical or developmental condition, or an older child, currently stands at 12-24 months from application to placement. A family requesting a toddler-age girl with a minor condition should plan for the longer end of the range. Families who are open to a broader age range, open to a boy and/or open to a broad special needs profile will typically get through the process in 12-18 months or less. Either way, China is one of the fastest and most stable adoption programs.
